Monthly Musings: May 2017
On a scale of 1-10 of whether I’m up-to-speed on the latest gadgets, apps and technology, I’m about a 2, and that’s on a good day. Yet, I do have a few apps that I love and will share here, in case you haven’t come across them.
Insight Timer – There are over 5,000 free meditations to listen to, with ratings from other listeners. There is an option to connect with your friends and see what they’re listening to as well. You can choose how many minutes, categories like stress, first time meditator, gratitude, sleep, etc. and, there are even some for kids and pregnancy/parenting. If you’ve thought you’d like to learn to meditate but aren’t sure where to start, this is a great way to sample meditation.
Straight to Voicemail (STV) – Ok, this could be considered a little sneaky but I think of it as a great time saver. Haven’t we all had a busy day where we need to return someone’s call but know that they’ll keep us on the phone for a half hour – when what we want is to keep it short and give them some basic info?
This app is a golden time saver in that you can call another cell phone and it will go straight to their voice mail without the phone ringing. It looks like they missed your call and got a voice mail. Bam! You’re on to the next thing on your to-do list.
My Fitness Pal – A super easy way to track your food and exercise. One of my favorite things about it is that you can enter the nutritional information from any store-bought food by scanning the bar code. You can also invite friends and cheer each other on as you meet work- out goals, lose weight and get fit. It has helped me curb my late evening eating – because it shows me when I’ve used up my calories for the day and serves as reminder that it’s time to have a hot tea instead of a bowl of ice cream!
What about you – what are some of your favorites?
I’m growing a community of like minds on Facebook and would love to have you join me there. What I enjoy most is hearing from you! Join me here.
