Monthly Musings: April 2017

A few months ago, my sister Julia and I made a pact to do three yoga classes a week in order to improve our posture and overall health. OK, and honestly, to ensure we don’t end up being completely hunched over as we age.  Today, I’m surprised and proud to say that I haven’t missed a week yet! And, although I still can barely touch my toes, let alone do a graceful downward dog, I have gained some great life lessons while on the mat.  Some of my favorite lines from my instructors have been:

  • “The benefits are in the effort, not in the acquisition.”
  • “In life, we often seek extreme and radical progress –  when in fact, the gifts are in the subtle changes.”
  • “You are the only one who knows how it feels to you – don’t let anyone else decide what you could or should be doing.”

Who knew there was so much life wisdom and self help on a yoga mat? I think I’ll keep going!
